Awards Scholarships!

Meals on Wheels North Carolina awards a $750 scholarship to a NC provider to attend the Meals on Wheels America Annual Conference and three $300 scholarships to attend the North Carolina Association on Aging annual Conference.

Ruth Ann Murphy received the scholarship for the MOWA conference in September and below is her testimonial.

What an amazing experience to be in the same room with hundreds of compassionate, creative, committed men and women representing nearly every state. It would have been impossible to have not been inspired by the energy and excitement of the Meals on Wheels America staff and the presenters. It was clear everyone believes in the mission of Meals on Wheels and is working diligently to care for seniors in their communities. Ellie Hollander, CEO of MOWA, was so approachable. She welcomed comments and questions and demonstrated her unflagging commitment to giving the local providers the tools that can support and elevate programs in their communities. It was clear to see that her leadership is the spark that makes MOWA a vibrant, relevant organization.

I wish I could have attended every work session because the level of expertise of the presenters was evident. Many have been supporters of MOWA for years and some offered their services to attendees at no charge. As a coordinator of various Home and Community Care Block Grant programs, I can say that the skills I learned and ideas that were presented are certainly relevant to many community based programs. I plan to use the contacts I made and the knowledge I gained to positively impact all of my program areas.

It was also a pleasure to meet and get to know the NC association leadership. They were all warm, friendly and made me feel included. I am looking forward to getting more involved on the state level and working to provide support for local providers in NC. I received a huge return on my investment in membership with the NC MOW Association. I was privileged to be the winner of the scholarship to the Meals on Wheels conference in Orlando. Without the additional financial support, I would not have been able to attend. Thank you NCMOW!

I hope you will consider joining if you are not already a member. Together we can deliver. Together we can thrive. Together we can succeed.

Thanks again for this fantastic opportunity.

Warmest Regards,

Ruth Anne Murphy
